On January 25th, Great Lakes Shiba Inu was very happy to welcome Takara to the world !!
Takara is a wonderfully healthy, sesame little girl.
Mika went into labor about 4pm on Friday evening and my 6pm we had a little girl.
Now.. unfortantely, it wasn't all good news.
Mika is an older lady and she seemed to be very tired, in fact, exhausted following Takara's delivery.
She didn't really want to push anymore. I had been forewarned that this might be an issue and isn't uncommon with older dogs.

Everything is progressing forward quite well with Jada.
Brady and Sophie are getting along quite well with Jada. Especially Sophie.
Seems the Yorkie is just the ticket for Jada, as she can match Jada's energy level BTU to BTU. Sophie is still a little protective over certain areas of the house -- especially the bedroom.
Brady likes to run and play with Jada outside, but inside the house, he's just too lazy for Jada's taste. He'll show occassional spurts of energy, but for the most part, he just lays around and lets Jada and Sophie jump and play on him.
Mika wants no part of Jada. But then, she's nearly due and she isn't tolerating anything right now.

Well, it happens to everyone eventually, but Great Lakes Shiba Inu suffered a server crash.
It didn't effect the actual site, but we lost our SQL database, which means all the users who were on the mailing list and all the guest book entries and archive of photos was lost.
One of the first things I installed was a new interactive mailing list. This is an upgrade over the old list which required me to compose a new email anytime a newsletter was required. I also had to manually add and delte names from the list.
The new software runs right off this site, uses the member list of this site to choose whom to mail to (i.e. you can opt in and out of newsletters as you wish) and the member controls which newsletters he/she gets.

Great Lakes Shiba Inu would like to announce a new addition to our team.
Jada !
Jada comes to Great Lakes Shiba Inu from Cyndi Swall of Overland Park, KS.
Cyndi is relatively new to Shiba's and found Jada to be an absolutely wonderful puppy, full of Shiba energy and high jinx.
GLSI was wanting to add a new princess to our litter, as our queen bee is being prepared for retirement and the timing worked out perfectly to add this little girl to our team.

I didn't have real high hopes for this mating.
First, I only witnessed a single mating.. and Secondly, Mika hadn't taken during the last two heat cycles.
Today however, I woke up to a pair of destroyed shoes.
What does chewed up shoes have to do with Puppies ?
