We have two females in the Kennel at the present time, Mika and Jada.

Mika was our first Shiba Inu... She is now eight years old and is heading into her final litter of puppies.

Mika is an incredible dog. Amazingly smart, she is attentive, bold, and loves going for car rides. After years of training, Mika can be walked without lease, is totally command reponsive and will even "stay in the yard" unattended.

She is the queen of the house and isn't afraid to let you know it.

Slightly smallish at 14lbs and 15 inches, Mika has maintained a strong Red Sesame coat. She has had 5 litters of puppies (last on 1/29/07) and all have been Sesame Red with the exception of two male Black and Tan, one of which we have currently.

Jada joined GLSI in January 2008 and is a princess in waiting.

Very smallish, Jada was likely the runt of the litter, but what she lacks in size she makes up in attitude.

Jada has too much energy to be a lap dog, though she liked being in the house. She definetely give the carpet a work out. She also throughly enjoys the outdoors. While Mika can be walked without a lease, Jada can't be left off a lease. She will bolt after small animals, birds, blowing leaves, shadows - real or imagined.

Word of warning to anyone considering owning a Shiba... this is the #1 area of concern for the Shiba Inu owner. These dogs will dart. They will not always come back. You are more likely to lose your dog this way then all other ways combined.
